REM Premiere New Single From New Album 'Collapse Into Now'

REM Premiere New Single From New Album 'Collapse Into Now'

American rock stars R.E.M have put a new single, about a month and a half prior to their release of their brand spanking new album, set for a March 8th release.

‘Mine Smell Like Honey’ is the first official single to be released from their 15th album, titled ‘Collapse Into Now’, and is their first single since they put ‘Discoverer’ up for free download on their website. ‘Discoverer’ is, incidentally, the first track from ‘Collapse Into Now’, butwon’t be released officially.

The legendary group recorded their album at different locations over the world, including Berlin and New Orleans– member Mike Mills has said"It's also fun for us to go to the cities we really love and spend some time. It's really important to go out, get great food, shrug off the debris of the day, and just be friends and have a good time. In Berlin you drink beer and eat wurst. In New Orleans you eat Cajun food and drink Sazerac.”

The single is available for download on iTunes now and you can preview the track below.

Stay tuned with Stereoboard.com for REM tour news as it happens!

Red Hot Chili Peppers New Album Almost Finished

Red Hot Chili Peppers New Album Almost Finished

With their new album now just two months away, Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassist Flea has started to tease fans by posting shots of the band adding the finishing touches in the studio.

The as yet untitled album is due for release in March this year and will be the Chili's first new release since 2006’s 'Stadium Arcadium'. Since then the band has changed slightly with guitarist John Frusciante leaving and being replaced by Josh Klinghoffer who is in one of the shots taken and posted by Flea.

Always full of energy and happy to give a quote or two Flea told NPRs "We love music, we're willing to put in the work and we're willing to put in the time."

The LA funk rockers sound has become more polished and mainstream throughout their career with Stadium Arcadium the most universally accessible they had released, although many still hold up 1999’s Californication as the career highlight. The band have been tight-lipped on the style of the new album, although it’s unlikely they will stray far from what has brought them global success over the years.

Details of a tour are yet to be announced; as soon as we hear the announcement of some UK shows, you’ll know about it on Stereoboard.com.

Everything Everything Win South Bank Sky Arts Award

Art-rockers Everything Everything picked up the Times Breakthrough Award at the 15th South Bank Sky Arts Awards on Tuesday. The ceremony, which was held at the Dorchester in London and hosted by former South Bank Show presented Melvyn Bragg, recognises achievements in various categories including music, film, TV, theatre and literature. Another winner in a music category was rapper Plan B, who won the Pop Music award for his soul album‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’.

The Times Breakthrough Award is the only category in the South Bank Sky Arts Awards that is decided by a public vote. ‘Man Alive’ has also been nominated for this year’s Guardian First Album Award, which is due to be announced on 28th January. Everything Everything are up against nine other artists for the award, including Delphic, Marina and the Diamonds, Rumer and Tinie Tempah.

In a recentinterview with Stereoboard, Jonathan Everything said of the album:“It’s been really surprising that we’ve had all this attention, considering we’re making such strange music – it’s not really radio-friendly. That feels like a little victory. I hope that’s inspired some people to have a bit more hope for more unusual music.”

Jimmy And The Sounds To Release New Single 'Heart For Rent'

Jimmy And The Sounds To Release New Single 'Heart For Rent'

'Heart for Rent', with it’s passionate vocals and epic choruses, is the new single from Middlesbrough band Jimmy and the Sounds. They play heartfelt, hook laden songs to dance to, sing along to and they describe their tracks as “Music to fall in love to”. Check out the video to 'Heart For Rent' below.

Their sound is that of a radio airplay dream with razor sharp indie-pop sounds that live, catch their audiences in a euphoric state with their hook laden and catchy sing back choruses all performed with a strong belief and a spring in their step! Together with their matter of factness North East attitude, they have an enviable ability of writing indie pop hits that provoke emotion and the band believe solely in living in that musical moment.

The four-piece have been performing together since 2009, travelling across the UK playing at respected venues such as 02 Academy, Newcastle, supporting Frankie and The Heartstrings, Reverend and the Makers and also playing at numerous UK festivals including supporting Maximo Park at Spear Live and British Sea Powerand Mercury Rev at Stockton Riverside Festival 2010.

Having already garnered support and airplay from BBC6 Music Introducing Tom Robinson, Huw Stephens “Sounds cute! Reminds me of Scouting For Girls…however they aren’t half as cheesy”, Zane Lowe “This sounds sweet, I like his voice and there is a place for this music” and a BBC Tees Introducing live session with their radio friendly and mainstream sounds.

Josh T Pearson Returns After 10 Year Hiatus With New Single& Album

Josh T Pearson Returns After 10 Year Hiatus With New Single& Album

As a precursor to his Berlin-recorded debut solo album, Last Of The Country Gentlemen (released March 14), Texan Josh T. Pearson will release the single,‘Country Dumb’ on 21st February.

Josh today also announces details of a headline show at London's Union Chapel on the 11th May.

A man whose legendary musical output has only grown in stature, many will be familiar with the short-lived phenomenon that was Lift to Experience, which released one sprawling masterpiece, 2001's The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads, before splitting up soon after. So beloved by John Peel were they that he had LTE record three sessions in five months and were included in the Best 125 Peel Sessions of all time.

An album standout, this exclusive single edit of‘Country Dumb’ features renowned multi-instrumentalist and composer Dustin O’ Halloran on superbly subtle piano accompaniment. The release of ‘Country Dumb’ coincides with an already sold out Slaughtered Lamb show. Add to this a further sold out show at the Purcell Rooms in April, you might begin to piece together the makings of a much heralded and rapturous return. Josh T. Pearson then plays the Union Chapel on May 11 with a string quartet to round out what promises to be an outstanding clutch of London shows alongside a full UK tour.

Since the demise of Lift to Experience, Josh T. Pearson has spent many years in the wilderness, only releasing one studio recording,‘I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry’, a split 7” single with the Dirty Three, and an appearance on the song ‘Trophy’ included on the Mercury Prize-nominated Bat for Lashes album, Fur and Gold.

Josh T. Pearson UK Tour Dates:

Wed 23 Feb London Slaughtered Lamb
Thu 24 March Sheffield Queens Social Club
Fri 25 March Glasgow Stereo
Sun 27 March Manchester The Deaf Institute
Tue 29 March Brighton Brighton Ballroom
Wed 30 March Nottingham Bodega
Fri 1 April London Purcell Rooms
Wed May 11 London Union Chapel

Oh No Oh My Announce Details Of New Album

Oh No Oh My Announce Details Of New Album

Austin-based Oh No Oh My explain why their second LP is technically their first *real* album and announce a separate EU release via Moulleux Records in March to coincide with their European tour.

A lot has changed for Oh No Oh My since the initial rush of hype and success received from their quickly recorded, self-titled and self-released debut album that led to see them tour with the likes of Mew, the Flaming Lips and Gnarls Barkley - whilst also having their music plastered all over TV and movie screens for programmes like ‘Weeds’ and adverts for films such as ‘Juno’. For a start they released two EPs; ‘Between the Devil& the Sea’ and ‘Dmitrij Dmitrij’. So then what happened? Oh No Oh My grew up. Priorities manifested. A new focus set in. And the result of all that is ‘People Problems,’ the group’s first new music in three years and, in essence, the band’s first “real” album.

It’s with ‘People Problems’ that fans of their previous releases will really notice this progression. They’ve developed a more mature sound to match a seemingly more abstract (and quite often dark) set of inspirations. In essence such insights into their experiences show this album is not simply acollection of songs scrambled together but instead 12 grandly small stories of the regular and the ordinary, the unusual and the exceptional- each taking turns to sneak in as songs only to turn around and reveal that they’re actually reminders of what it’s like to be a person. A person with problems.

A first listen to the upbeat strums of‘So I Took You’ (surprisingly written straight after waking up in hospital following a truly horrific car accident) may not appear to set a perceiving conventional tone for what actually is the tale of a knife-wielding pervert’s warped endeavours with a hopeless victim. Oddly, both ‘Brains’ and‘There Will Be Bones’ were also written after a car accident- but for reasons that are too obvious/gruesome to get into. Tracks such as ‘I Don’t Know’ explores the band’s own reflection of meaninglessness following the brutal mugging of one of the band members, whilst ‘Not The One’ expandsthat same reflection further after a less-than-successful police line up in relation to the offense.

What makes the entire album such an intriguing piece of work is that Oh No Oh My’s musical style appears awkwardly cobbled with their broad, yet diverse lyrical references. Whilst their lyrics broach the topics of killing overbearing parents, a wrongfully convicted man, life’s meaninglessness, and even the bone-filled crypts of the Capuchin monks- these often seemingly oppressive topics never quite seem to equal what one might perceive as formulaic musical styles to match them. As lead singer Daniel Hoxmeier states in regards to the lively tempo, quiet percussion and subtle horns on ‘Again Again’; “It’s quite pretty for a song about reaching down someone’s throat”

With such an rousing collection of experiences creating the subject matter for the album, understanding the thoughts behind these songs enables us to fully appreciate‘People Problems’ on an entirely different level. The band have gone one step further with this concept, by creating and updating a website (www.people-problems.com) that showcases both random people and fans they have met whilst on tour who are willing to publically share their own (and often bizarre) ‘people problems’ on camera.

Slash Rejects Guns N Roses Track Being Used On TV Show Glee

Slash Rejects Guns N Roses Track Being Used On TV Show Glee

Rock n roll legends Guns N Roses are still pleasing rock fans worldwide– and are now disappointing ‘Gleeks’ worldwide too.

In true rock star fashion, guitarist Slash has rejected attempts from the producers of Glee to use one of the band’s songs on the hit US show.

The band’s tracks are often used in TV or video games, but it Glee seemed a step too far for Slash – who had this to say about the musical TV series."Glee is worse than Grease and Grease is bad enough. I look at Grease now and think between High School Musical and Glee, Grease was a work of art."

He then went on to talk about former Guns N Roses mate Axl Rose, saying"Axl has always in my mind been one of the best frontmen / lyricists in rock and roll, period. We may have had our differences and this and that and the other, but I will never undermine the fact that I thought Guns N' Roses, when it was originally together, was one of the best rock bands.”

Most recently, Guns N Roses songs appeared on hit video game Guitar Hero– with Slash included in the game himself, as a main character. But apparently, he is not very fond of musicals..

The Kills Sell Out London Show In 15 Minutes

The Kills Sell Out London Show In 15 Minutes

Today The Kills sold out their first UK show of 2011 in 15 minutes. The show at London's Heaven will take place on March 31st. Tickets went on sale this morning (Friday 21st January) and the 1000 capacity venue was completely sold out in 15 minutes. The show comes a matter of days before the new album 'Blood Pressures' is released through Domino on April 4th.

The Kills  -  Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart - are back with a new studio album, 'Blood Pressures', the highly anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed third album, 'Midnight Boom '.

With their basic sound intact - searing guitars, driving rhythms and sexually charged lyrical savvy - the 11 tracks on 'Blood Pressures' find The Kills embracing a fuller sound and becoming more adventurous in the studio, while the lyrics are honest, heartfelt and sometimes just plain heartbreaking. Departing from the sparse, angular sound of 'Midnight Boom', the duo explores complex textures on 'Blood Pressures'. There is heavier instrumentation and layered, huge-sounding harmonies. Alison and Jamie play all the instruments on the album, including piano and mellotron.

'Blood Pressures' finds The Kills with their swagger and sass intact, but with a new thoughtfulness and depth - even a tinge of wistfulness and vulnerability - to their always compelling songwriting.  As one of the most vital, striking bands recording today, The Kills' vividly unique"rock"is at once effortless, edgy and timeless.

'Blood Pressures' is the 4th LP the band has released, following 'Midnight Boom' (2008), 'No Wow' (2005) and 'Keep on Your Mean Side' (2002).  Watch this space for single and tour news!

Full tracklisting:

1. Future Starts Slow
2. Satellite
3. Heart Is A Beating Drum
4. Nail In My Coffin
5. Wild Charms
6. DNA
7. Baby Says
8. Last Goodbye
9. Damned If She Do
10. You Don't Own The Road
11. Pots and Pans

Joe Bonamassa To Release New Album 'Dust Bowl' On March 21st

Joe Bonamassa To Release New Album 'Dust Bowl' On March 21st

World renowned guitarist Joe Bonamassa will release his 12th full-length solo album, 'Dust Bowl' in the UK on Monday March 21st 2011 (US release is March 22nd). The album will coincide with Bonamassa’s forthcoming 'Dust Bowl 2011 World Tour' that will take in cities across America, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia.

“I think Dust Bowl is the best album we’ve ever done,” says Bonamassa. “I’m finding more inspiration in storytelling in my 30s, in writing songs that are about something more profound than ‘my baby left me.’ I like albums that are made with the right intentions and sound organic and a little rough around the edges, like a great band playing live in the room.”

Dust Bowl is Joe Bonamassa’s sixth collaboration with producer Kevin “The Caveman” Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Black Crowes, Black Country Communion) and features collaborations with Nashville legends Vince Gill and John Hiatt, female vocalist Beth Hart, and Joe’s Black Country Communion band-mate, Glenn Hughes.

'Dust Bowl' is the follow-up to 2010’s 'Black Rock', which entered the Official UK Album Chart at #14, and the self-titled debut album from Black Country Communion, the Bonamassa-helmed, British-American rock supergroup featuring Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham and Derek Sherinian.  BCC debuted at #1 on the UK Rock Album Chart and at #13on the official UK Album Chart.

Mona have unveiled the video for their new single,‘Teenager’. Hotly tipped as the next big thing to come out of Nashville, Mona have had a string of successful tour dates in the UK over the past few months and are set to return at the end of January.

The video is a brooding and sexy three and a half minute affair which sees the band performing the song and looking despondent as a string of half naked women (understandably) pout and get down and dirty with each other...and here was you thinking ‘Inception’ was a tough one to follow.

In an interview withThe Suntoday, lead singer Nick Brown commented on the meaning behind the song:"All people have desire and need more than just themselves, you love love but can't find a love."

He continued, discussing the band’s collective mentality:"We're all family people. We're all mamas' boys. We all try to be good brothers, to be good sons. The same thing with the band - we're a family. But obviously with the band we're more like a family in the Mafia sense. We're a f***ing gang as well. It's all hugs and kisses on the cheek - but if you f*** with us, we're vicious."

Sony And Universal Announce Policy Change on Singles

Sony And Universal Announce Policy Change on Singles

Two of the UK’s biggest record labels have announced plans to change the way in which singles are released in the country. Both Sony and Universal have revealed that they will be making new singles available on the same day as they are first played on the radio.

Both companies have stated that they plan to adopt the policy from next month for all acts whose management agree to the changes. The decision comes as a move to prohibit illegal downloading of songs, where listeners currently have a six week window between a song’s first radio play and its official release. By releasing the song simultaneously with its first radio play, the record companies believe that consumers will be more likely to take legal routes in obtaining their favourite tracks.

Speaking on the decision, Universal Music's UK CEO David Joseph said:"For a lot of our younger fans and consumers the word 'wait' is no longer in the vocabulary. You hear something and want it and then you search it. And if you search for it then you’ve got to make sure there is a legal site for that appetite."

The policy change comes after months of pressure from The Featured Artists Coalition, a group comprising of over 1,500 artists and supporters who campaign for performer’s rights in the UK. The Artists Coalition released an official statement today, declaring:"We welcome the move by several of the major and independent labels to move to same day retail and airplay single releases. We believe artists will benefit from increased sales, fewer illegal downloads from fans who want to own the music as soon as they hear it, and a more accurate chart which reflects undistorted consumer behaviour."

Paramore Debut New Track‘In The Mourning’ Online

Paramore Debut New Track‘In The Mourning’ Online

American punk-pop band Paramore have unveiled a new track on their website, Paramore.net. The band have posted a video showing singer Hayley Williams and guitarist Taylor York performing a section of a new acoustic track,‘In The Mourning’.

The four minute video shows the pair joking and discussing the song’s structure before launching into a performance of the unfinished track. The song is unusually restrained for the band, who have become known for their distorted guitar sound and radio-friendly choruses: Paramore have only officially released one acoustic song in the past, a track called ‘Miguided Ghosts’ from their 2009 LP ‘Brand New Eyes’.

The public unveiling of‘In The Mourning’ is the latest development in an ongoing clash between the current Paramore line-up and ex-members Zac and Josh Farro, who left the band last month in an aggressive fashion, posting an angry online rant as they departed.
The band’s teenage fanbase have been quick to link the new material with the departure, citing the ‘good riddance’ tone of the lyrics as evidence:"Now there's nothing but time that's wasted/And words that have no backbone/Oh the whole world seems to be waiting/Can you hear the echoes fading?"

Mr Big Reveal Details Of New Album 'What If'

Mr Big Reveal Details Of New Album 'What If'

The highly anticipated European release of Mr Big's new studio album, entitled 'What If…', is set for January 21st 2011. The North American release shall follow in February with more exciting details to be announced!

'What If…' is Mr Big’s first “all original”  album since the reunion of the four original members, Eric Martin, Paul Gilbert, Billy Sheehan and Pat Torpey back in early 2009. Sixteen years after the release of 'Hey Man', the new recording is set to bring back Mr Big on the height of thecurrent Hard Rock scene.

Guitarist Paul Gilbert said: “This is the first Mr Big album I have been a part of, since fourteen years and it was done in a snap. It was fun and we had really a  good time in making this one”. Continues Billy Sheehan “It’s so great to be back with Paul, Eric and Pat too. We wrote this record like we did in the old days for the first 2 records. Jamming together in the same room to write songs”. Pat Torpey adds “Some of the recording process is different now from what we were used to in the old times. But I think this record really managed to capture the performances of the band, not of theindividual musicians”.

Eric Martin concludes: “I like to compare this to the first album, when we just got to know each other in a reharsal studio and cut it in 8 or 9 days. This is like chapter 2. We had so many years, so many records and so many things behind us. Now this feels like a beautiful brand new chapter starting for all of us”.

'What If…' was produced by Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, Rush, Iron Maiden)  and the release will be followed by a World Tour which will kick off in South America in March and will hit Europe in early summer.

Formed in 1988, Mr. Big forged its place in hard rock history by combining trademark"shredding"musicianship with awesome vocal harmonies. The original line-up– vocalist Eric Martin, guitarist Paul Gilbert, bassist Billy Sheehan, and drummer Pat Torpey. Mr. Big produced numerous hit songs that ranged across a wide array of rock genres – be it ballads, heavy metal, or blues rock.

Their hits included 'To Be With You' (Billboard Hot 100 number one single in 15 countries for weeks, in 1991, propelling the band the band to huge international success and record sales in the multi-millions), 'Wild World', 'Green-Tinted sixties Mind', 'Just Take My Heart', and a host of heavy metal songs that were played mostly during their live performances: 'Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy', 'Addicted to that Rush', 'Colorado Bulldog', and 'Take Cover'.

'What If…' will be released in a special edition CD + DVD in digipak, regular CD, vinyl and digital download and in a limited edition luxury box including the CD, DVD, LP and exclusive memorabilia.

'What If…' tracklisting includes: 'Undertow'; 'American Beauty'; 'Stranger In My Life'; 'Nobody Takes the Blame'; 'Still Ain’t Enough for Me'; 'Once Upon a Time'; 'As Far As I Can See'; 'All The Way Up'; 'I Won’t Get In My Way'; 'Around The World'; 'I Get The Feeling'; 'Unforgiven' (exclusive bonus track for Europe / North America – not on vinyl edition).

The DVD will include the videoclips of 'Undertow' and 'All the Way Up' plus a documentary“Making of” the album including interviews and exclusive behind the scenes features of the four members.

Check out the official video to 'Undertow' below.

Rihanna And Katy Perry Furious Over‘Managed Anorexia’ Twitter Campaign

Rihanna And Katy Perry Furious Over‘Managed Anorexia’ Twitter Campaign

Pop goliaths Rihanna and Katy Perry have gone online to attack a former Big Brother contestant over his endorsement of a“managed anorexia” pill. Kenneth Tong, a member of the 2009 UK Big Brother house claimed to be launching a pill able to help women achieve a size zero figure.

In a series of distasteful tweets, the ex-contestant declared that women should be more aware of their body image, urging females to"Use your self-hate as a catalyst to get thin, or die trying."However, both Rihanna and Katy Perry were keen to criticise the comments, pointing out the ignorance of such superficial thinking. Rihanna was quick to criticise Tong, tweeting:"Girls are dying all over the world because of ignorant individuals like this.” Perry then retweeted the Barbadian singers message, before adding “Preach!”.

However, Tong spoke up yesterday in an extended message posted from Twitter, declaring that the comments had been an attention-grabbing hoax brought about through a bet with a friend. He wrote:“I think it is time for to come clean. The whole size zero thing is a hoax. It came about after an interesting discussion I had with a friend of mine. The discussion centered round whether it was possible, to go from nowhere to be a globally recognized figure within a week harnessing the power of the internet and specifically Twitter, which I have always maintained is a better medium than national TV.”

The Z-list celebrity then went on to announce that he would be pledging money towards Beat, a charity aimed at combating eating disorders, especially amongst teenagers.

The Kills Reveal Details Of New Album& Tracklisting

The Kills Reveal Details Of New Album& Tracklisting

The Kills  -  Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart - are back with a new studio album, 'Blood Pressures', the highly anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed third album, 'Midnight Boom'. 'Blood Pressures' will be released in the UK on Domino on April 4th 2011.

For the sessions that became 'Blood Pressures', Jamie and Alison returned to Key Club Studios, Michigan where they reunited with Midnight Boom engineers Bill Skibbe and Jessica Ruffins. Produced by Jamie Hince, the album was mixed in London by Tom Elmhirst.

New Katy Perry Song Appears Online

New Katy Perry Song Appears Online

A new song by Californian pop star Katy Perry has appeared online this week. The track, said to be entitled‘Part of Me’, appeared on YouTube and other file-sharing sights earlier this week.

The song was produced by Dr. Luke during the sessions for Katy Perry’s recent album ‘Teenage Dream’, but didn’t end up on the album tracklist. However, fans have been quick to speculate that it will be released this year either as a B-side to her latest single or on a deluxe re-release of thehugely successful ‘Teenage Dream’. The song is a energetic, bass-heavy affair, complete with a lively chorus of synths and the pop energy Perry fans have come to expect.

You can listen to the leaked version of‘Part of Me’ below:

However,‘Part of Me’ is not the only Katy Perry track that has surfaced online this week. A collaboration with British rapper Tinie Tempah has also recently appeared on YouTube, where the rapper has lended his vocal talents to a remix of her as-of-yet unreleased album track, ‘E.T.’

The emergence of the collaboration has fuelled rumours that‘E.T.’ will be the latest release from ‘Teenage Dream’. The singer recently asked her Twitter followers which single she should release next, and was clearly pleased with the response, despite giving no indication of her decision:"Thanks for all your great suggestions for the next single today!"she tweeted on December 13."Your voice has been heard! We're on the same page..."

You can listen to the remix of‘E.T.’ (featuring Tinie Tempah) below:
