Panic! At The Disco Set For Broadway Show?

Panic! At The Disco Set For Broadway Show?

Panic! At The Disco could be the latest act to take their sound to theatrical levels by putting on their own musical. The band admitted this week that they would like to follow in the footsteps of The Who and Green Day, creating a production using their own musical score.

In a recent radio interview, drummer Spencer Smith said:"That would be amazing. Put together a show that was a mix of our music as well as maybe tell a story...that would be like a dream."

He continued, joking to vocalist Brendon Urie:“It would be in like New Jersey. Like off-Broadway. Really far,"

The band have recently dusted off their own acting shoes on two occasions: performing in the video for recent single‘The Ballad of Mona Lisa’ and also for their dramatic album sampler promo, ‘The Overture’. Speaking about their own abilities, Smith said:"Every musician wants to act, but we have a way to do it where people know we're not trained actors, so we can be a little bit cheesy,"

Vocalist Brandon Urie also spoke about the band’s split last year, which saw members Ryan Ross and Jon Walker depart from the group, citing creative differences as the main cause. Speaking about their departure, Urie said:"Everybody wants their opinion heard and so you argue a lot more with four cooks in the kitchen. (Spencer and I) had been on the same page (regarding) where we saw the album going so in that sense there wasn't really any arguing and that kind of helped."

Spencer Smith added:"You're best friends and you live with these people so you can tell, you know, that there's like some tension there. After we kind of got off tour and it came time to record, we talked about it, and it just seemed like what (happened) needed to happen for our personal relationships, too. Now we're able to actually talk with those guys and not have the music stuff there to create tension."

Coldplay's New Album Nearing Completion

Coldplay's New Album Nearing Completion

Coldplay have revealed that they have almost finished work on the much-anticipated follow-up to their 2008 LP‘Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends’

Speaking on the band's official blog, an anonymous writer named Roadie #42 said:"Back in the studio, the songs are now very much pushing their heads above the soil and straining towards the light,"

It continued:"{Producer} Brian {Eno} is back in the fold this week and the fellas are gathered around the mic for much of the time. It's a tremendous thing to get close up to. When the guys are belting it out with the track on headphones, all that can be heard in the room is the blast of harmonies. It's huge, powerful and yet completely unaided by technology, just a pure, organic human bloom."

"My office is next door, I hear Chris {Martin} standing in the doorway of Dav's room listening. 'That's amazing, just great'. He stays a while and listens, then heads off down the stairs proclaiming to no-one in particular, 'Maybe this album won't be so bad after all'."

"I suspect that the band has had a reasonable idea all along of how things will feel when they're finished, in the same way that a sculptor sees the finished piece, but just needs to dig it out of the block.' There's been much chiselling and smoothing and now things are really developing a recognisable form and an emotional resonance."

Coldplay, who are headliners at this year’s Glastonbury festival, are yet to give a release date for their as-of-yet untitled studio album, although many have speculated that a release in late 2011 is likely.

Patrick Wolf Reveals Details Of New Album 'Lupercalia' - Out May 30th

'Lupercalia' is already being hailed as his best work to date. An unusual array of instruments emerge; the duduk, cristal bachet, glass harmonica and ondes martenot all combine with orchestral woodwind, brass, choral and string sections recorded at the legendary Air Studios to produce a body of work that sounds like the album Wolf has been waiting all his life to make.

Speaking in a recent interview, Wolf explains how the lyrics to this album are “hugely confessional” Having found both love and a related sense of deep fulfilment last year, 'Lupercalia' records this continuing journey of discovery and the newly found redemptive feelings he has been experiencing.

It seems that a refreshed outlook on life and a profound optimism has propelled him to new creative heights, contradicting the view that abject suffering always makes the best art.

‘Lupercalia’ tracklisting:

The City
House
Bermondsey Street
The Future
Armistice
William
Time Of My LIfe
The Days
Slow Motion

Nick Oliveri:” Josh Homme Turned Down QOTSA Return”

Nick Oliveri:” Josh Homme Turned Down QOTSA Return”

Ex-Queens of the Stone Age bassist Mick Oliveri has admitted that Josh Homme denied his request to rejoin the band on stage recently. Oliveri was fired from the band in 2004, but has reconciled with vocalist Josh Homme since leaving the band.

According to a recent interview withUGO, the musician claimed that he suggested joining the band when he watched them play at a Los Angeles benefit show, only to be turned down by frontman Homme.

"I was down there and I mentioned to them, 'Why don't I come up and do 'Millionaire' or something, and sing it and not play bass?'"Oliveri said.

He continued:"{Josh} was like, 'Nah, I don't think that's a good idea yet.' It's kind of in his court for stuff like that. I don't think he wants to give anybody the wrong idea. I don't necessarily know if that would happen. And he's got a good band - he's taking the band in the direction he wants it to go. Hey, it's all good."

When Oliveri was questioned on whether or not Homme was invited to join the Kyuss revival (known as Kyuss Lives!), he said:"I don't think he was. John {Garcia} didn't think that he wanted to with the three bands that he's already in. I asked Josh, 'Is it cool if I go and do this thing? What do you think?' And he said, 'Go do it man. Have some fun!' Josh has in his studio a framed poster of Garcia Plays Kyuss in there, so he's proud of the Kyuss thing as far as I know. He's cool with it.”

Reading’s favourite town centre festival is back this summer and this year it’s going to be more innovative than ever before. In a bid to keep on pushing the boundaries of music and art as we know it, the event will be taking on the challenge of becoming the UK’s first ever pop-up festival.

A few days ago, festival organiser, Jack Hepplewhite, announced the Festival’s first raft of lead headliners. Stages will be curated by some of the country’s premier promoters, including Skint Mondays, We All Live& Die and BBC introducing.

This new pop-up status will delight and surprise as events literally‘pop-up’ all over town with its landscape transformed by the opening of previously undiscovered areas, with more diverse buildings, bigger bands and eclectic cuisine.  Pop-up venues, cinemas, theatres and restaurants will spring out from courtyards, closed shops, empty office spaces, churches, bars, venues, and open green spaces across the month of July.

The festival organisers are also planning a free public launch party at the Oakford Social Club on the 29th April. Featuring Kid Carpet + Benin City.

This will be followed by a warm-up gig at Reading’s Sub89 to whet the public appetite in the run-up to the big event in July:

SSS Reveal Details Of New Album 'Problems To The Answer'

British crossover thrashers SSS recently finished recording their forthcoming new album, which is due to be released later this year on Earache Records.

The new album, titled 'Problems To The Answer', was recorded at Whitewood Studios in the band's home town of Liverpool and is produced by Rob Whiteley along with SSS bassist Mark Magill.

SSS frontman Foxy explains the title of the new album:

"The title 'Problems To The Answer' gives outspoken practical solutions to problems faced in everyday life.  External factors shape not only today, but yesterday and into tomorrow.  SSS attempts to provide answers - for better or worse - in our most vicious recording to date."

SSS have been documenting the creation of their new album as it happens. Check out the updates and photos from the recording of 'Problems To The Answer' at the band's official blog athttp://shortsharpshockuk.tumblr.com

The teenage singer has received a torrent of criticism and mocking from the online community for her song‘Friday’, which has been called out for its unintentionally patronising lyrics and unashamed use of auto-tune technology.

The 13-year-old has received 21 million hits on YouTube, many of which occurred after the video became a viral sensation earlier this week.

Speaking on‘Good Morning America’, the singer said:"After seeing it go from 4,000 views to 70,000 views in one night, and then waking up and it was at 200,000 views - that's when I realised this was going to be big."

When asked about the negative comments the video had been receiving, Black took a brave stance, declaring:"It doesn't bother me."However, Black did acknowledge that some of the comments have been surprisingly spiteful. She discussed one individual who messaged her, saying:"I hope you cut yourself and I hope you get an eating disorder so you'll look pretty - and I hope you go cut and die."

She continued:"When I first saw all of these nasty comments I did cry. I felt like this was my fault and I shouldn't have done this. Now I don't feel that way."

Black also responded to individuals criticising her vocals on the track. She performed a section of the US National Anthem before declaring:"I think I have talent on some level. I don't think I'm the worst singer, but I don't think I'm the best singer."

New York Dolls Première New Video For Single 'Fool For You Baby' - Watch Now

To coincide with this week’s release of the New York Dolls’ critically acclaimed fifth studio album 'Dancing Backward in High Heels', the band has released a promo video for their new single 'Fool For You Baby'.  The video, directed by Jeremy Johnstone (Mono, Young Widows), features original Dolls founding members David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain.

The video for 'Fool For You Baby' showcases the Dolls in a circus tent.  Guitarist Syl Sylvain is the circus ring leader, and as the camera moves through the circus ring, more characters are revealed including a fire breather, a strongman, and a sword swallower.  Singer David Johansen appears inthe background and gradually dances forwards in slow motion as he sings the lyrics.

It’s a poignant, cinematic homage to rock and roll, and the Dolls' first official promo music video since 'Dance Like A Monkey', which is taken from the 2006 album 'One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This'.

Check out the 'Fool For You Baby' video below.

The video dovetails the New York Dolls forthcoming UK tour dates:

Sweet Jane Announce UK Release Date Of Debut Album 'Sugar For My Soul'

Sweet Jane Announce UK Release Date Of Debut Album 'Sugar For My Soul'

Dublin band Sweet Jane have announced they are to release their new album 'Sugar For My Soul' in the UK on May 2nd.

Their debut UK single 'Close Your Eyes' is already on a number of new music playlists including Q Radio, Overflow Radio, EKR Radio and many more. The band are featured in the next issue of Artrocker magazine and appear at SXSW in March at various showcase gigs from Mar 16 - 19th.

Sweet Jane are currently enjoying glowing plaudits from around the world for the album 'Sugar For My Soul', already released in Ireland, it saw them secure the Myspace Artist of the Week slot. They also featured inMusic Week’s recent ‘Best of Irish’ compilation, and the album has scored top 3 positions in album ofthe year lists in Ireland.

Recently The Irish Times, while giving them ‘gig of the week’,  called them a ‘remarkably good band who transcend their influences by being bang on the money.  The primary case in point is their recently released debut album Sugar For My Soul which manages to blend loaded psych rock and a sweet-natured dream-pop disposition with a clear affinity for the rockier, sludgier end of Americana.’

Having spent the two years since their formation honing their live set, Sweet Jane made their major festival debut with a hugely impressive show at Oxegen last year.

Sweet Jane are vocalist Lydia des Dolles , Danda Paxton guitar/vocals, Ruairi Paxton bass, and Donogh O'Brien on drums. They have toured with several bands such as Glasvegas, The View, and the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and have been invited to play at Alan McGee’s Death Disco in London, a number of times.

Faithless Announce Split

Faithless Announce Split

News has just broken that the legendary dance, Faithless, have decided to call an end to things and split after their current tour.

Formed in 1993, Rollo Armstrong, Sister Bliss and Maxi Jazz have become one of the UK's top contemporary dance acts. They have sold over 12 million records worldwide and are famous for such hits as 'Insomnia' and 'God is a DJ'.

Announcing the news via a statement on Faithless' official websitewww.faithless.co.ukvocalist Maxi Jazz had the following to say.

“After 15 years(!) and six albums(!!) I think we've probably made our collective point by now and that it's time to close the book and return to the library...

We've had, with you, the most unbelievable, epic and moving experience, stretching over years and tens of thousands of miles... joyful, exhilarating and empowering, we never for a moment thought an affair could last this long. Or be this powerful. Never thought for a moment that the end of this journey would be left to us either...

Quite naturally people grow, change and leave the things of youth behind them. You've not only brought us with you, but introduced us to y'children too! What're you like..?

The album 'The Dance Never Ends' was written and produced for you, as a thank you, but also as a goodbye.. the tour schedule has been particularly hectic as we attempt to visit as many territories as there are people who wanna see us.. And say thank you.

If I devoted the rest of my life to the task, I could NEVER thank you enough. I have memories that will still be with me in my next life.
But, like when writing a song, you always just 'know' when it's finished... this is and was the"Thank YOU And Goodbye' tour and to be truthful, I really hope you just pick up the ball of your life.. And RUN WITH IT!!

Once again, whether you bought or downloaded a cd, came to a show or told your mates about us... Whether from the beginning or just last week..

Thank you.

You'll be in my heart forever. Listen for my voice in future lifetimes, I only grow in your shadow, you're the sun to me.

One Love.

Maxi”

While this news may come as a shock to many fans, Faithless admitted last year that they would be considering their future following their current tour. Faithless will play two shows at London's Brixton Academy next month as they promote their current album 'The Dance Never Ends'. Maxi has described their current tour, as well as the album, as a“thank you” to the fans.

Tyvek With New Single And Concert Dates

Tyvek With New Single And Concert Dates

Detroit based lo-fi sound Tyvek has released his latest album‘Nothing Fits’, and has announced one or two live shows around the country too.

Tyvek's In the Red debut, Nothing Fits, is a scalding collection of amped-up and thrust-out songs that crank up the energy level far beyond their previous releases, and decimate the detractors into the abyss. It's Tyvek at their fiery, screaming best, and if this doesn't curl your eyebrows and your toes simultaneously with excitement, then you might need to settle for something musically akin to hospital food or take another laxative, because this blast of new recordings might just flush out your system to the point of personal emergency.

As Detroit continues its seemingly irreversible slide into the tar pits of economical despair, new traditionalists Tyvek have unashamedly taken the reins and harnessed the ambition to keep their slurred and manically refreshing noise pop bouncing around the skulls of everyone still breathing in the real, uncatergorisible fumes of the original new wave. With an already impressive trail of essential releases behind them, including last year's debut album and an infinitesimal stream of"tour-only"CDRs, the band seems to always be evolving, yet never straying far from the original cacophony that earned them a spot in the hallowed halls of modern punk's elite erratics.

And as dynamically diverse as Tyvek's recordings have become, their live set also seems to shift dramatically with each new appearance, ranging from a monstrous five piece to the currently stripped-down three-piece that easily gets the job done without sacrificing any of the intensity or brazen brevity that's earned them their fanatical following. With relentless touring, razor-esque songwriting and the ability to adapt to their surroundings without resistance, it's no wonder why they're so adept at captivating the off-centre sounds of bygone-era DIY scrapings and spinning it into gold, all without ever really showing any influence of the Detroit"sound"that's known the world over. This trait alone deserves massive respect and forges their creativity in a unique light, as pioneers and as individuals who set forth to create their own thing in their own time, and in essence, are clearly executing some of the most exciting sounds in underground music today.

To catch the Tyvek’s live show, which was described by Uncut as “Invigorating, urgent and razorsharp”, you can see the dates below, as well as the tracklisting for his twelve track album.

Lil' Rascals Retrun With New Name and New Promo 'Re-Introduce'

UK Rap group‘Lil Rascals’ have re-formed themselves and re-named themselves, and are now set to ‘re-introduce’ themselves back into the music industry.

Kay Willz, Big Shizz, Tempz, Merkz and Ryan De La Cruz now form Rascals, the more mature and grown up (both physically and musically) group that will be storming the UK rap scene from now onwards.

Having worked with and alongside artists such as Tinie Tempah, Tinchy Stryder, N-Dubz, Roll Deep, Wiley, Ironik, J Cole, Bless Beats, Sway, Ghetts, Crazy Cousinz and Maxsta, the guys are back with their brand new promo“Re-introduce”, released May 2011 as part of their Mixtape Sagas.

Late 2007, aged just twelve& thirteen Big Shizz, Tempz and Merkz release their debut double sided single“New Era/ Future Wifey” to TV and radio.

“Future Wifey” was their official version excursion on Fluke's (Crazy Cousinz) infamous “Wifey Riddim”. Fast forward Summer 2010, with over four million internet hits, and currently generating approximately 10,000 combined YouTube hits per week, Big Shizz, Tempz, Merkz (Rascals) and Ryan De La Cruz decide it’s time to get back to work, recruit long time Bow resident and childhood friend, Singer/Emcee - 17 year-old Kay Willz (Ex – Mucky Wolfpack member) and hit the studio.

Now having recently signed to UK music executive, Steve Long’s (Inferno Records / Mis-teeq) new Management group SBD, and sponsored by Puma and Diesel clothing, 2011 looks like being a very interesting year for the new look ‘Team Rascals’.
