Jimi Hendrix Plectrum Mosiac Sells for£23,000

Jimi Hendrix Plectrum Mosiac Sells for£23,000

A mosaic of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix made out of guitar plectrums has sold for£23,000.

In an auction for charity, a mystery buyer outbid auction master and pub landlord Al Murray after the item started at almost half the price paid for it at £12,000.

The incredible mosaic was created by artist Ed Chapman, from Darwen in Lancashire, out of 5,000 guitar picks and was the main attraction of the Sound and Vision fundraiser. The event held its fifth annual auction last Friday, in aid of Cancer Research UK.

“I’m delighted that something I enjoyed creating has raised so much for such a worthwhile cause.” said artist Ed. “It’s more than we’d hoped for and although it’s nice for the person who’s bought it, it’s really, really good for a charity which works to stop a disease that sadly touches everyone.”

The auction, held at Abbey Road studios in London, managed to raise£340,000 for charity.

Eminem Beats Lady Gaga To Become Most‘Liked’ Person On Facebook

Eminem has become the most popular living musician on Facebook, with almost 29 million fans. The singer currently has 28,956,304 followers on the social networking site, and yesterday overtook Lady Gaga, who currently holds a (measly) 28,913,119 fans.

The rapper is believed to be gaining half a million fans on average every week on the website. However, both he and Gaga are still lagging in comparison to the late Michael Jackson, who is the most ‘liked’ person on the website. Jackson’s page has 29,171,017 fans, and is believed to be growingat a rate similar to Eminem's.

Follwing just behind Gaga and Eminem are a hoard of other popular celebrities, including Megan Fox (with 21,039,556 fans), Vin diesel (20,821,485 fans) and U.S. President Barack Obama (18,458,446 fans)

Meanwhile, Eminem has been finding himself under a wave of tabloid speculation after hiring actress Sasha Grey to appear in his new video. As previously reported by Stereoboard, the rapper recruited Grey, a former porn actress, to appear in the video for his latest single‘Space Bound’. Eminem is yet to make a comment on the choice of actress.

Radiohead To Release The King of Limbs Part Two?

Radiohead To Release The King of Limbs Part Two?

English alternative rockers Radiohead’s fan base have sparked rumours that their latest album, ‘The King of Limbs’, is the first part to a two part album – and that the second part is due for imminent release.

The theories are said to come from fans of the band, who saw the final track on The King of Limbs, ‘Separator’, as a gateway to the second part of the album – a literal separation between two potential albums.

Some of the gossip had stemmed from the fact that the album had also been given the working name TKOL1, which caused fans to assume that TKOL2 would be following up right after.

‘The King of Limbs’ was only released six days ago (February 18th), but its actual release was only announced four days prior – which makes the rumours all the more possible. Also, Radiohead have done this sort of thing before – in 2000-01 they released two studio albums in less than a year - ‘Kid A’ saw light in October 2000, which was swiftly followed by 'Amnesiac' in June 2001. Both albums contained mostly songs recorded in the same session.

Stereoboard will keep you posted on any developments in the story!

Susan Boyle Crowned As Biggest-Selling Brit Abroad

Susan Boyle Crowned As Biggest-Selling Brit Abroad

Susan Boyle has beaten off stiff competition to earn the title of highest-selling UK act in overseas markets for 2010. The figures, which were announced recently, confirm that Boyle is the most successful Brit on foreign soil for the second year running.

Boyle’s 2010 release ‘The Gift’ sold 3.7 million copies overseas last year, earning the Christmas Number Two spot in America and reaching Number One in dozens of other countries.

The Scottish‘Britain’s Got Talent’ star beat Sade, who came second in the list after her ‘Soldier Of Love’ album sold 2.3 million units last year. Mumford and Sons came third with 1.3 overseas sales of ‘Sigh No More’ and Muse came fourth after selling just over one million copies of ‘The Resistance’ last year.

Other key names on the list include Phil Collins with‘Going Back’, Gorillaz' ‘Plastic Beach’, Florence and the Machine’s ‘Lungs’ and Take That’s ‘Progress’.

Despite topping the list, Boyle failed to make quite the same impression in 2010 as she did the year before. In 2009 her debut album‘I Dreamed A Dream’ sold over 6 million copies in foreign markets.

Kasabian's Tom Meighan Takes Acting Role

Kasabian's Tom Meighan Takes Acting Role

One to file under‘a bit random’ is the news that Kasabian lead singer Tom Meighan has been cast as one of the starring roles in the pilot of a new comedy drama called ‘Walk Like A Panther’.

Following in the, mainly pretty dodgy footsteps of musicians turned actors such as David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Sting, Meighan has never made a secret of his desire to get involved in acting and now he has his chance. Negotiations for screening rights are still ongoing so whether the show ever sees our TV screens is uncertain.

The show also boasts‘proper’ actors Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire), Sean Pertwee (Dog Soldiers) and Ian Mercer (Coronation Street) although Meighan very nearly wasn’t the only rock star to be involved. Noel Gallagher was allegedly cast as a DJ but was on holiday when filming took place, although he is expected tomake an appearance if the pilot earns the project a commission for a full series.

The story was written and directed by Dan Cadan (who also worked on Snatch) and is set in modern day Leeds about a group of retired wrestlers. Meeting each other again 30 years on at a funeral they decide to give it one last go at a tour around the country provoking images of a series along similar lines to‘The Wrestler’ which saved Mickey Rourke’s ailing Hollywood career.

Meighan will play a wannabe bodyguard who suffers from panic attacks and described the process as‘more nerve wracking than playing at Glastonbury’ when speaking to Q about the project but has clearly enjoyed being involved. Kasabian will also supply the theme tune, covering Terry Bush’s ‘Maybe Tomorrow’.

Fans of Kasabian will be pleased to hear this isn’t a permanent career change however and is something he sees more as a bit of fun and a way to fulfil an ambition while taking a break from working on the bands fourth studio album, expected to be released in September 2011. ‘Kasabian and the music comes first. It’s my life, my blood’.

Kasabian are playing a series of festivals this summer including Rockness, Isle of Wight and BBK Bilbao. Details of the new album and any promotional tour will be posted on Stereoboard.com as soon as they emerge.

Grammy-winning Jazz Vocalist Kurt Elling to Release New Album

Grammy-winning Jazz Vocalist Kurt Elling to Release New Album

Chicago-based jazz vocalist Kurt Elling is to release his new album‘The Gate’ on 7th March. The album follows Elling’s previous offering ‘Dedicated to You’, which won the award for Best Jazz Vocal Album at the Grammys last year. ‘The Gate’ features songs by artists including King Crimson, The Beatles, Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder.

Kurt Elling released his debut album ‘Close Your Eyes’ in 1995 through legendary jazz label Blue Note Records. He is currently signed to Concord Records. Elling has released eight albums to date, all of which have been nominated for a Grammy Award.

Speaking about working with Elling,‘The Gate’ producer Don Was said: “I first heard Kurt on the local jazz station and was knocked out by his exotic blend of soul, technique, intelligence and charismatic hipness. He made this diverse collection of songs his own and we had a blast.”

Was has previously worked with the likes of the Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan. In 1994, he won the BAFTA for Best Film Music for‘Backbeat’.

“What Don brought to this project,” says Elling, “was his love of music and musicians, and a confidence that liberated us from all concern. He is the consummate producer and this was an extraordinary experience, my favourite in a studio.”

Jessie J Says She's Ready For The Limelight

Jessie J Says She's Ready For The Limelight

Pop’s new protégé Jessie J has revealed that she is ready to hit the big time. Speaking toThe Sunearlier this week, the singer admitted that her recent success was probably overdue, noting her work as a songwriter long before she released her own material.

She said:"Finally it's my time to shine. The critics know I've worked my absolute butt off. I've been around for years. I was signed for four years before I even gave my first song away. Some say I was a writer first, which technically I was, but I'd always wanted to do what I'm doing now. This is my dream."

She continued:"When I did those YouTube videos, I'd had a deal for ages. I just got really fed up of not having an audience so I thought, 'Right, sod it, I'm going to go straight to them'.You get a lot of people on YouTube doing covers as it's harder to break with your own music. People respected that the song was my own and I think that's what got the buzz going."

Jessie J went on to discuss her recent success at the BRIT awards, where she picked up the coveted‘Critic’s Choice Award’. Coupled with topping the BBC Sound of 2011 Poll, many have viewed Jessie as a sure-fire chart hit for this year. The singer failed to disappoint when her second single, ‘Price Tag’ topped the UK singles chart two weeks ago. Speaking on the success, she said:"I'm very honoured, I owe it all to my fans - my 'heartbeats' as I call them. There are not many artists nowadays who can sit there and say they've had that success from the start. I want to be a role model to young people but stay normal without letting fame go to my head."

"I'm at home catching up on my ironing before I head off to do a sound check. I want to catch up with my family for half an hour too, just to remind myself what they look like, then I'm back on the road. I'm the baby of the family. My mum, dad and sisters are amazing, we're like best mates. I'm a very family-orientated person but I can often go six weeks without seeing them."

Discussing the possibility of breaking the American market, she said:"You do have to sacrifice a lot but once you're there you can start adding the things back into your life that you once had to take out. And if I do disappear over to the States for a bit, I want people to know I'm still flying the British flag."

The Waifs Announce New Album Release Date + Tour Info

The Waifs Announce New Album Release Date + Tour Info

Australian folk-rock band The Waifs have confirmed that will be releasing a new album, out on the 4th March.

‘Temptation’ is the follow-up to 2006's Sun, Dirt, Water, which the band recorded in Nashville and which reached No.2 in the Australian album charts. That album represented a natural progression for The Waifs, one on which they expanded and experimented with their sound.

‘Temptation' sees them stripping back, returning to their roots and
playing an assortment of acoustic and electric instruments, joined once again by the established rhythm section of drummer David Ross Macdonald and bassist Ben Franz.

There's also a re-shaping of songwriting input this time. While the bulk of the material for Sun, Dirt, and Water came from Cunningham, on Temptation the songs are more equally spread. The boys recorded the long player in November last year, at a very un-well looked after house/studio

And now The Waifs are embarking on a massive tour of Australia, kicking off next Tuesday in Moruya Memorial Hall, in Moruya, New South Wales, and closes out on 27th March at the Mangrove Resort Hotel. The Waifs have been on fire recently and you won’t want to miss this. You can look for tickets through Stereoboard.

Frightened Rabbit, Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip Confirmed As Headliners For 2000Trees Festival

Frightened Rabbit, Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip Confirmed As Headliners For 2000Trees Festival

Scottish indie rockers Frightened Rabbit will headline the 2000trees festival, with Islet, Ellen& the Escapades and Straight Lines also confirmed for the main stage.

Devil Sold His Soul, Talons, Exit Ten, and The James Cleaver Quintet have been lined up for The Cave (new second stage), while Dizraeli and the Small Gods, StringerBessant, Sound of Rum, and Stagecoach will perform in the Leaf Lounge.

Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip have already been confirmed as Friday night headliners at the 2000trees festival’s 5th birthday celebration on July 15th and 16th. And with tickets selling much faster than last year, organisers are predicting another sold out event.

Other bands include Los Campesinos!, Imperial Leisure, And So I Watch You From Afar, Amplifier, Your Demise, Malefice, Kong, The Travelling Band, Dave McPherson, Tall Ships and Yndi Halda. Plus local favourites Jim Lockey& the Solemn Sun will take to the stage for Early Entry ticket holders on Thursday July 14th, along with Maybeshewill, Kill it kid, Crazy Arm and OST.

Bringing together the very best in new and underground British music, 2000trees features more than 80 acts on four stages in the picturesque Cotswolds, plus comedy, DJs, headphone disco, quality and value food& drink, and a trader village.

Organiser Andy Rea said:“Every band we’ve booked, we have seen live, so we’re confident it is our biggest and best line-up ever, bringing together some of the very best new and underground British music.

“We are expecting tickets to sell out even earlier than last year’s record in May.”

The festival was named Grass Roots Festival at the latest UK Festival Awards– voted for by festival fans. In the Awards’ words:

“Often the best small festivals spring from an organic labour of love and a long-time dream which has been shared by thousands more. These festivals should be celebrated, not just for the courage and vision shown by their organisers, but also because they never forget where they've come from, supporting their local communities and new music along the way while retaining an independent spirit and resisting commercial saturation.”

2000trees is also‘A Greener Festival Award’ winner for its dedication to being one of the UK’s greenest festivals, set within the stunning backdrop of Upcote Farm, near Cheltenham.

Created by a group of friends in 2007, the festival was borne out of frustration with the ever increasing corporate sponsorship and‘musical merry-go-round’ nature of the larger mainstream British festivals. Disillusioned by extortionate ticket prices and over priced food and drink, this band of festival veterans vowed to take matters into their own hands and in true punk rock style set about developing the perfect antidote.

Tickets cost just£59 for an adult weekend camping pass. Children under 10 go free but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Early Entry tickets for Thursday, July 14th are £12.

More information is available from 2000trees festival website:www.twothousandtreesfestival.co.uk

The duo went on to release three albums; ‘Ego War’, ‘Generation’ and ‘Higher Than The Eiffel’ and are confirmed to bring an electrifying DJ set to life in the Capital.

Dance music fans will also be thrilled to hear of the addition of The Orb, who will headline Saturday 23rd April. The duo have enjoyed incredible success on the dance music scene; their most renowned album ‘U. F. Orb’ reached number one in the UK charts in 1992, with the single ‘Blue Room’ becoming a classic club hit. This was followed by the unforgettable‘Little Fluffy Clouds’ in 1993, which was a top ten hit and is still played in clubs to this day. Their tenth studio album ‘Metallic Spheres’ also saw an exciting collaboration with Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour.

The weekend will finish with a set from the man who was awarded an MBE in 2002 for services to music and DJing– internationally renowned Norman Jay. Norman’s deep musical knowledge reflects in his choice of mixes. He crosses a variety of genres and coined the term ‘rare groove’.

Having established himself through Kiss FM were he was one of the founding members alongside Gordon Mac and George Power, Norman Jay went on to join Gilles Peterson in establishing influential record label Talkin’ Loud. He presented ‘Giant 45’ on BBC Radio London for over 10 years, as well as guest presenting ‘Funk Factory’ on BBC Radio 2. Norman continues to amaze crowds all over the world with his unique mixing style and musical fusion.

The support acts for the Easter Weekend are also world class. Friday evening sees A1 Bassline, who is highly championed for success by the likes of NME, Mix Mag and Dazed& Confused, as well as the mighty Hey Today!, Benji Boko plus DJ’sWez Clarke, Simon Speller and D’arcy.

Saturday’s music spectacular will be supported in the form of 808 State DJs and Lone, as well as DJ’s Phil Mison, Iain Baker and D’arcy, while Sunday’s line up includes Jazzie B, who was awarded the first Inspiration Award at the Ivor Novello’s as well as an OBE, and The Soul 2 Soul Sound System. Ashley Beadle will also take to the decks on Sunday, who is perhaps best know for his time X-Press 2 and their number two chart hit ‘Lazy’.

Jan Chadwick, General Manager of Indig02, commented:“We’re thrilled to have such an amazing line up confirmed for Easter Weekend. We’ve got some of the most influential people on the dance music scene under one roof. I can’t wait to see the crowd’s reaction on the night. It’s going to be quite spectacular.”

Teitur to Release New Album‘Let The Dog Drive Home’ in April

Faroe Islands-based solo artist Teitur is to release his fourth album‘Let The Dog Drive Home’ on 11th April. It follows his 2008 release and UK debut ‘The Singer’, which received worldwide critical acclaim. ‘Let The Dog Drive Home’ will be preceded by the single ‘Betty Hedges’. Teitur’s music has earned him a number of well-known fans, including KT Tunstall and RufusWainwright, and has seen him perform support slots for the likes of Suzanne Vega and John Mayer.

Speaking about the album, Teitur said:“Most of these songs are about letting go, about being small and the realisation that things seldom turn out the way you expect them to. I can only hope these songs will become someone else’s modest companion and I feel honoured that anyone would even listen to it once - although it’ll probably take more than one listen to be moved.”

Beyonce Excited to Be Headlining Glastonbury Festival

R&B star Beyonce expressed her excitement at the prospect of headlining Glastonbury Festival this summer, saying that she was‘pumped’ for the performance.

Despite no official announcements from festival organiser Michael Eavis, the singer confirmed earlier this week that she would be performing at the festival. Beyonce is yet to confirm that she will be one of the evening’s headliners, though it is widely believed that it is the case.

Speaking toBillboardabout the booking, she said:"This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there. Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend."

She added:"I'm pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy."

Beyonce attended the Somerset festival in 2008, when her husband Jay-Z broke tradition by being the first major hip-hop headline that the Festival had seen. Coldplay have been confirmed as a second headliner for this year’s event, with U2 widely rumoured to be booked as the third and final headliners.

Glastonbury Festival 2011 will take place on June 24th-26th at Worthy Farm, Somerset, with the site opening on June 22nd. The final line-up is expected to be confirmed after the sale of a second ticket batch in the spring.

N-Dubz Claim They“Don’t Get The Recognition” From Brits

N-Dubz Claim They“Don’t Get The Recognition” From Brits

R&B group N-Dubz have claimed that they aren’t appreciated enough by audiences in the UK. The group have claimed that they need to break into the American market in order to receive recognition in the UK.

Speaking to a British Newspaper, the group criticised the Brit Awards as they failed to earn any nominations at this year’s ceremony. Fazer said:"A lot of people up for a Brit Award this year haven't sold half as many records as us. We just don't get the recognition. Last year they put us up for 'British Single' with Tinchy {Stryder} but this year they didn't even recognise us.

He continued:"I reckon it's going to take us to smash America for the UK to turn around and go, 'Ahhh'. It's frustrating as we work hard on our projects and are very hands-on. We produce, write and mix and master all our own songs."

"It's more emotional for us as the songs are more personal. We're under-rated. I wasn't surprised when Liam Gallagher threw his Brit in the crowd last year. I'd do the same thing if they gave us one. They can have it back."

Dappy added:"We've got to get a number one in America or I'll be a depressed loser for the rest of my life. Brits - what do we have to do? Do we have to get naked?"The singer may have been a bit forgetful with this closing statement, which comes only two weeks after naked pictures of the N-Dubz frontman surfaced online. It could be worse, however: the singer is joined by Rihanna and Lady Gaga, who have both suffered the same experience in the past month.

Meanwhile, the band have stated that they will be adapting their style to make it more US-friendly. Dappy stated that they are smarting themselves up in order to crack America:"Fazer and I have been inspired to wear more tailored suits and smart jackets. You have to evolve. It would be arrogant of us to expect to just go over there and not change things up a little."

X Factor USA Will Offer Record Breaking $5 Million To Winner

X Factor USA Will Offer Record Breaking $5 Million To Winner

The Winner of this year’s American ‘X Factor’ will receive a $5 million Sony Music record deal, it has been announced today. The amount marks the largest guaranteed price ever awarded in TV history.

In an announcement on Fox network’s official 'X Factor' website, Cowell revealed that the American competition will be aired this August after auditions in cities including New York, Miami, Dallas, Seattle and Chicago. In a change of pace the American version of the show will also feature children as young as 12 after the programme has decided to lower the younger age limit from the UK version.

Cowell said:"I like the idea that a 12-year-old on this show can compete with an older singer and a singing group. I've never believed there should be a cut-off age for talent, and we are going to put our money where our mouths are with the $5 million recording contract. I'm doing this show in America because I genuinely believe we can find a superstar."

Despite the updates, it still hasn’t been confirmed who will be on the shows judging panel. Early reports indicate that the final line-up will be released in the next few weeks. It is equally unclear who will be hosting the US version, although British host Dermot O’Leary is less than optimistic about his chances.

The host recently appeared on Alan Carr’s chat show, saying:"In my water I don’t think I will get it. I’m not being deliberately pessimistic. It’s gone on so long now that I’ve kind of made peace with that. It’s an American show, and it’s between me and four Americans - I’d imagine an American would get it. Just because, for the sake of balance, If Cheryl gets the show they’ll probably want an American host."

"I don’t really want to give up the UK job. That’s really important."he added.

Filmmaker Brands Arcade Fire As“Not Good People”

Filmmaker Brands Arcade Fire As“Not Good People”

Director and Cameraman Vincent Moon has described Fire as“not good people” after spending time with them recording the 2008 documentary ‘Miroir Noir’. Moon criticised the Canadian rockers, also claiming that their managers were “disgusting” and “awful”.

Moon was a key player in the filming and production of Arcade Fire’s ‘Miroir Noir’, a film which documented the making of their hit 2007 album Neon Bible and the following tour. In a recent interview with Eye Weekly, the filmmaker said:"They're not good people, that's it. And I don't mean the whole band - I mean the leaders of the band and their management.”

He continued:"What I hate about the band now is that people call them an indie band and they're not an indie band, they are a mainstream band... The way they deal with their business is really disgusting for me. The way they deal with things is awful. Their management are awful, awful people, and I know what I'm talking about. I have some really terrible stories with them."

Although lead singer Win Butler and his bandmates are yet to make a statement on the criticism, the group’s manager Scott Rodger made a rebuttal yesterday on Consequenceofsound.net. He said:

“Dear Vincent,

I’m one of the so called “not good people”. Can we get the camera equipment you stole from the band returned yet? Perhaps if your drug habit could be contained you may actually be able to complete a film. We should have taken advice from our other friends who worked with you who advised us not to.But we thought it would be great. Unfortunately we were wrong. Your move to “art films”, that wouldn’t by any chance be circumstantial as no one is prepared to hire or commission you any more??Telling the truth. It’s not that hard Vincent.?Now can we get our equipment back?

thanks

Scott”

Rihanna Courts Controversy With New‘S&M’ Video And Nude Photos

Rihanna Courts Controversy With New‘S&M’ Video And Nude Photos

R&B star Rihanna has caused a stir this week by unveiling the risqué video for her latest single, ‘S&M’. The video has been banned by regulating authorities in 11 countries (so far) and has been deemed “inappropriate” by YouTube, who have given it an 18+ age restriction.

The ‘S&M’ video depicts the Barbadian singer dressed in latex and holding a press conference for journalists who are gagged with rubber choke balls...controversial stuff. Another highlight features celebrity blogger Perez Hilton playing canine as he is dragged by the lead, rolling around subserviently forthe 'Umbrella' star.

Unsurprisingly with lyrics such as"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but chains and whips excite me", the song has been provisionally banned from daytime broadcast by BBC radio. Speaking on the single, a spokesperson from the BBC said:"We are waiting for an edited version before deciding whether it will be played in the daytime."

The news comes during an already eventful week for Rihanna, as nude pictures of the singer reportedly emerged online this week. The snaps have been circulated by a number of major celebrity bloggers, but Rihanna is yet to make a statement regarding the validity of the pictures.

Meanwhile, the singer has announced that she will be performing at the Grammy awards in February alongside her‘What’s My Name?’ hitmaker Drake. The pair were confirmed as the official Grammy’s Twitter channel posted earlier this week:"OFFICIAL& for our fans first: @Rihanna to perform w/ Drake (@drakkardnoir) at 53rd GRAMMYs!"

The pair will join the likes of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Eminem and Cee Lo Green at the prestigious ceremony in Los Angeles next month.
